It's August and the Second Avenue Seven are on a well-deserved hiatus from tedious council meetings. But when they spring back into action next month councillors will need to address a number of festering issues.

For starters, the 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Holiday Inn proponent has yet to pay a number of local businesses for services rendered during the construction process.

Despite numerous liens against his company, he recently established a hotel management service, operating out of Calgary.

Council will need to ensure measures are in place to avoid a similar situation in the future because this nasty little mess has given the town a collective shiner.

Elsewhere on the development scene, last September council passed a motion to accept cash in lieu of contractors building specific affordable housing units. District staff recently reported that setting up "a healthy affordable housing reserve fund allows the municipality to partner on a range of housing endeavours that largely target low-income earners."

Coun. Paul Lalli noted that the fund could result in the construction of something similar to Riverstones, 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料's first affordable housing project for seniors and persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, according to Sea to Sky community developer Karen Clarke, other than Riverstones, affordable housing starts in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 are "at a standstill."

Is council listening?

Finding housing for the growing army of homeless in town is another major topic of concern. Last year, with some fanfare, the district handed over land for a social housing project to be built behind the 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Public Library.

The multi-use building was slated to include a new home for the drop-in centre, a permanent homeless shelter on the second floor and small self-contained suites on the third and fourth floors.

Now, according to one source, funding for the ambitious project appears to have dried up and at the moment the 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Helping Hands Society continues to operate out of the old fire hall behind the library.

Speaking of lodging concerns, a year ago council sent a letter to the Minister of Housing indicating that Marina Estates residents should be compensated for repairs to the pasta sieve condos in which they suddenly found themselves, especially given the $600,000 in provincial levies paid by local residents to the Housing Protection Office over the years.

At the time Mayor Gardner said he expected that money, or at least a portion of it, to "come back to our community to support these types of issues within 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料."

A year later we are still waiting to hear from council whether the Marina Estates owners are being compensated from the HPO fund.

On another front, in 2009 council passed a motion to track the usage of municipal RCMP officers acting in provincial jurisdictions, such as Highway 99.

Coun. Patricia Heintzman suggested 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 was subsidizing a provincial service via our local RCMP. The implication is that municipal taxpayers are paying the local RCMP to attend "police incidents" on the high-speed Sea to Sky Autobahn, all the way from the pearly gates of Whistler to sleepy Lions Bay.

So, when will council publish the results of the operation to track RCMP deployment?
