Quit foot dragging

Editor,

I generally try to avoid writing letters to the editor, but for this circumstance I need to make an exception to the rule.

The pavilion has been slow roasting for far too long to let it just go away anymore. If memory serves, when our current mayor was elected there seemed to be a lot of talk about the buzzword of the day "transparency."

With new social networking mediums coming on line and newsletters to constituents being all the rage, why shouldn't they be able have a more open conversation with the public?

In the nature of the transparency the question needs to be asked, why all the secrecy around the pavilion project? It seems rather simple: you tear one old structure down, get a sizable grant to rebuild it, do a bit of community outreach and voila, you once again have a space where the community can gather.

The fact that a grant has been given, the outreach has been done (by a contracted former district employee), and the overall want of the community is saying "Build it in the Unpavilion Park," there's still a lot of ambiguity around this whole thing.

In the words of my high school history teacher " Keep it Simple @$&*^!" The fact that the BIA, and the community have to even spend the time to lobby on this issue is disheartening as far as this council's support of downtown.

All one has to do is go through The Chief archives (which are easily available online) to see how public perception formed about where the new pavilion should be located. With so many construction workers laid off, or working out of town at the moment why are we dragging our feet?

If our mayor intends to move this project to the waterfront than please just come out and say it. If he wants to split the money up than say it. Whatever you do please stop feeding us this guessing game that's been going on for far too long.

Give us some transparency, and put some faith back in the electorate as it pertains to the districts political will to revitalize the downtown.
