Re: “ϰϲʿ¼ cat owner loses pet to poisoning,” [Published Aug. 24.]

My deepest condolences to the person whose cat died from rodenticide poisoning. Sadly this continues to be an all too common occurrence.

I would like to clarify some misinformation that was posed in this article. Rodenticides are not fully banned in B.C.  On the contrary, SGARs are still legal to use in nine broad categories of essential services across the province, and anticoagulants called FGARs and other highly toxic rodenticides have no restrictions on them and continue to be widely used, so dangers to humans, pets, wildlife, and the environment from these toxic products remain high.  It is clear that current laws are not adequate.

The only sure way to mitigate risk from the toxic effects of poisons is to discontinue their use, and the government needs to support this by enacting a comprehensive full ban on all rodenticides.
