What does the death of Queen Elizabeth II mean to folks in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料, 6,931 kilometres away from  Balmoral Castle, United Kingdom, where she died?

Some locals expressed grief to the point of being brought to tears. They expressed admiration for her devotion to her subjects in a role she never asked for, her ability to weather family and other scandals with calm and her dignity.  Others bemoaned the extensive and sympathetic coverage of the Queen, given her colonial role. Hours after her death, #AbolishTheMonarchy was trending on Twitter.

What isn’t at question is that the Queen’s death marks an end of an era in which, even in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料, she was distant yet ever-present.

Mayor Karen Elliott sent condolences to her family and reflected on what comes next.

“We join many across the world in honouring the extraordinary life of Queen Elizabeth II and her devotion to duty and public service,” Elliott told The 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料. “Her passing marks the end of an era, one that spanned across most of our lives and memories. At this time, let us reflect on the events and complexities of the Commonwealth during her remarkable 70-year reign. During times of transition, it is also an opportunity for a change in focus on reconciliation, and I hope a further opportunity to see her heirs build new and stronger relationships between the Crown and First Nations in this country, a country she loved deeply.”

The 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Nation declined to comment for this piece.

老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 senior and long-time local teacher Nelson Winterburn, who has also devoted much of his life to service, volunteering with various organizations, including the 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Legion, and the Lions, noted the Queen loved to come to Canada “because she was treated warmly when here.”

“She was an inspiration with her role as monarch, wife and parent. I was impressed with the fact that she got her hands dirty working in a factory on behalf of the war effort, the fact that she loved to drive herself as opposed to being chauffeured, and her enormous dedication to her Royal subjects in so many ways. The late Queen has left shoes that will be huge to fill by her successor, [King] Charles,” he said.

“As a youngster in the early school grades, we readily sang God Save the Queen. Now, after slightly more than 70 years, we will be adjusting from God Save the Queen to God Save the King. May Queen Elizabeth rest in peace. Best wishes for a positive transition to King Charles III.”

A state funeral for the Queen will take place on Monday, Sept. 19.

Undoubtedly, many of us in town will tune in to bid our final farewells, whatever our complicated feelings about her.

In 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料, the R is also organizing a memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II on Monday morning (at 10:45 a.m.) at the Cenotaph located at Stan Clarke Park downtown.
