Bullying a police issue

Editor,

It was interesting to see that the RCMP enforcing the Criminal Code was a front page story ["Police enter bullying fray," The Chief, Oct. 1] while your editorial berated educators for not being better policemen ["Desperate times," The Chief Oct. 1].

The reality is that neither the Criminal Code nor the Education Act provides any enforcement tools to allow teachers, administrators or school districts to deal with physical violence, drug or bullying issues.

Sadly the bullies and their parents are all too aware of this.

A positive change for schools (and the community in general) would be to have the Criminal Code enforced by the police so that our educators could concentrate on administering the School Act.
