WINNIPEG — Searchers have been looking for a boy who police say may have drowned at a provincial park in eastern Manitoba.

RCMP issued a news release on Saturday saying police were advised a 12-year-old boy from Winnipeg was last seen climbing down the rocks at Sturgeon Falls in Whiteshell Provincial Park.

They say he slipped into the water and almost immediately went under in the rapids.

Police say a bystander jumped in to help but couldn't bring the boy back to shore.

They say the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team have been at the scene, and have been receiving help from provincial conservation officers and park staff.

Police say they are still investigating.
