THE PAS, Man. — Manitoba RCMP have caught one inmate who escaped from a correctional facility in northern Manitoba and are searching for another.

Mounties in The Pas say Xander Tardiff is in police custody after officers located the 19-year-old and safely arrested him.

Police are still searching for Kelly Castel, who is 21, and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the detachment in The Pas.

The two men, along with a third, escaped from the correctional centre shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday.

A search involving additional police resources, including police dogs, resulted in the apprehension of one of the inmates, who was returned to custody.

Alert Ready messages have been issued for residents of The Pas, Flin Flon and surrounding areas in Manitoba, and Saskatchewan RCMP have issued a Sask Alert message to residents in Creighton, Sask., and nearby areas.

RCMP say Castel has a history of violence and should not be approached.

Residents are being told to lock all doors and windows and to immediately report anything suspicious to the RCMP.
