Looking ahead

A weakening front will bring increasing clouds, cooler temperatures with a chance of showers on Sunday into early Monday, according to Ross.

A stronger ridge of high pressure will likely build by next Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing temperatures back above normal.

Campfire bans lifted

As of Aug. 26, the BC Wildfire Service Coastal Fire Centre and the District of ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ  on Category 1 campfires in the Coastal Fire Centre area, and within the District boundaries.

As of Wednesday, there is no longer a Coastal Fire Centre ban on  and  open burning, as defined in the . This is for outside of District boundaries, within the corridor.

 includes: 

  • Material in one pile not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
  • Material concurrently in 2 piles each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
  • Stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares

  includes:

  • Material concurrently in 3 or more piles each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
  • Material in one or more piles each exceeding 2 metres in height or 3 metres in width
  • One or more windrows, none of which exceed 200 metres in length or 15 metres in width
  • Stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares

The following are never allowed in ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ:

  • Fires in any public space, including forests, riverbanks, mountainsides, beaches
  • , including but not limited to: yard waste, garden debris and construction materials

Spit Road closure

With kiting season coming to a close this last weekend, the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ Training Berm (Spit Road), will now be closed until Nov. 15, as ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ River Watershed Society (SRWS) crews install a third large fish-friendly box culvert.

"This feature will replace the current undersized culvert, which will improve fish access and allow freshwater to transfer into the central estuary channel from the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ River," reads a SRWS post.

•Sept. 29, put on your gumboots and head to ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ Rivers Day, 2024, starting at 1000 Midnight Way, Brackendale. The event is on from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"To honour our beautiful rivers and all the life it brings, we will be planting around the new fish pond at the hatchery. Planting will start at 10 a.m. and we will gather for a BBQ afterwards (~12 p.m.). Limited tours of the hatchery will be available throughout the day," reads the listing.
