Well… that’s all, folks

Movie critic Bryan Raiser goes into the galaxy with a look at Cosmos
Submitted
Columnist Bryan Raiser’s final recommendation for your TV viewing pleasure is the reboot of Cosmos with Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Four publishers, eight editors, 13 years in this paper. That, my friend, is one helluva run!

Yes, this regular humour/review feature is being phased out and might I say it’s been an absolute honour being able to direct your eyes to quality viewing and I’m grateful I had the opportunity as long as I did.

The theatre closing sucked donkey bulbs and now we’re a diverse community of thousands that have one thing in common — if we want screen-time entertainment, we have to watch it at home.

Here’s the rub: At this very second you can go online and watch any movie or TV show ever created. But life is too short to sit through rubbish and if you’re going to have screen time, it better be top-notch. I was proud to be part of an award-winning local paper that appreciated the community need for some laughs while directing people to their new favourite/hated movie or show.

Career highlights? Walking Tim Shoults through the idea of a movie review with no words (“If you can’t say anything nice…” Fantastic Four). Being told my suggestions helped people survive their surgery/pregnancy/winter. Of course, everyone enjoys trashing movies (I’m looking at you, Gravity). But recently, it was my daughter saying I have to keep writing reviews for her because she really wants to keep reading them.

Oh, before I let the door hit my behind on the way out, I have to throw one final recommendation — Seth MacFarlane rebooted Cosmos with Neil deGrasse Tyson and it’s brilliant, for the whole family, and might save the world — yeah, SCIENCE!

To all who helped facilitate my epic newsprint run, well played. To all who enjoyed reading it, I respectfully request the highest of fives.

Bryan Raiser lives in ϰϲʿ¼ and is ready to launch a new 1-800-dial-a-review consulting service.
