It may have been luck of the draw, but the cast of Between Shifts Theatre鈥檚 鈥淭he Glass Menagerie鈥� couldn鈥檛 be happier.
鈥淲e are really excited,鈥� Kathy Daniels said, her voice bubbling with glee.
Down to the wire, a theatre company on Vancouver Island dropped out of this year鈥檚 Theatre B.C. Mainstage; an annual provincial community theatre festival that showcases the best of B.C. The names of four runners-up in line to attend the event were placed in a draw. Between Shifts Theatre鈥檚 Tennessee Williams play, 鈥淭he Glass Menagerie鈥� was pulled.听
鈥淲e weren鈥檛 ready to say goodbye to the play yet because we loved it so much,鈥� said Daniels, who plays the part of Amanda Wingfield.听
The theatre troupe鈥檚 production of the classic tale that centres on the life of a woman abandoned by her husband in St. Louis in 1937, won them accolades earlier this year. Last May, Daniels was named Best Actor Female, Michael Hewitt took home the Outstanding Achievement by a Director honour and Between Shifts won the award for Backstage Cooperation at the North Shore Zone Theatre Festival.
The four-person cast had its fingers crossed for the same kind of success at the nine-day provincial bash in Kamloops between July 4 to July 12. On Sunday, July 6, Between Shifts takes to the stage of the 720-seat Sagebrush Theatre.听
鈥淲e are competing against six other plays from across the province,鈥� Daniels said.
This is the second time Between Shifts has been invited to the Mainstage festival. In 2012, the troupe performed the company鈥檚 production of 鈥淭he Cemetery Club鈥� at the event.听
Before Between Shifts can start unpacking in Kamloops, the cast needs to do fundraising in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料. While the actors are teaming up with some North Shore companies to get to the provincials, they still have to fund the transportation, Daniels said. More than a month after Between Shifts Theatre last performed 鈥淭he Glass Menagerie,鈥� Daniels was surprised to find she still remembers her lines.听
