Here we have the second, and we can only hope, last Snow White film for the foreseeable future hitting the shelves. Where Mirror Mirror chose the light route, so by default Snow White and the Huntsman is being called "the dark one," but to be fair, that's only by comparison.
It's the classic tale of the wicked witch marrying, then quickly killing Snow's father, the King. Snow is thrown into the tower, assumed dead by all. Years pass and she grows up and escapes only to come back and go all Joan of Arc on the witch.
Your enjoyment of this film will depend mostly on your Kristin "Twilight" Stewart tolerance. Apparently she plays the same character in every movie to the point that many expected glittery vampires to show up at any minute. Besides that, it's a pretty paint-by-numbers-obvious-good-vs.-obvious-evil flick with bunch of CGI effects thrown in to distract from the lack of story.
On the off chance you're expecting amazing things about this film because the only things you heard was that it's the "dark" Snow White film and Ian McShane is playing a dwarf, I'm sorry, but you'd better take those expectations down to "generic entertainment" and you'll have some fun. If, however, you are in search of the pinnacle of action fairytale entertainment, might I suggest HBO's "Game of Thrones."
In TV releases, many sandal-'n'-sword gladiator fans will be excited for the complete second season of Sparticus: Vengeance. This action drama series is tailored to those who enjoy ridiculously sexy half-naked men and women viciously killing and/or getting it on in slow motion.
