Making sweet music together

Local duo Step Twelve finishes tour with CD launch at Ledge Caf茅

Many married couples would find it difficult to not only live with their partner, but also work, create and travel long distances on a daily basis together, as well.

But for Andr茅 and Samantha Chamberlain - the duo that make up musical act Step Twelve - whether writing songs together, touring the country or just hanging out in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料, they always manage to make sweet music together.

"It's awesome," Andr茅 said of touring and performing with Samantha. "The chemistry is always there."

Step Twelve play original songs - and a few covers - featuring bass guitar, supported by keys and mandolin, glockenspiel, plus random percussion and more, all looped together.

"It gives a fuller sound," he said. "And we don't need to travel with a whole band. It's a really great scenario."

The duo came together musically quite by accident, he said.

"I've been playing my whole life," he said. "But I had been playing with another guy for three years, and he moved away. Samantha started playing music at the same time, and originally we had no intention of playing together as a group, but it worked so well, and we thought, 'Why not?'"

Since then, the duo have toured to Winnipeg and back, and independently released two EPs (Ends Close Sight and We Walked Away).

"The EPs are available on iTunes," he said. "We self-produced them. I learned how to record and self-engineer the tracks myself. We did it all ourselves, right in our home in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料."

The neo-folksy sounds of Step Twelve got the couple noticed and invited this year to perform at the Indie Week Toronto event in October.

"We are using the opportunity to tour from Toronto right back to 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料," he said.

Step Twelve ends its cross-Canada tour on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the new Ledge Caf茅 in downtown 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料.

"It will also be our official CD launch for the latest EP," he said.

Opening the night will be Jana Lahti, another local musician with an EP produced and recorded by Andr茅.

Tickets for the show are $5, and available at the Beehive in Brackendale.
