Summer movie season is here and thankfully it begins with a blockbuster that lives up to the hype. This is actually a big deal because the hype for The Avengers is humongous. And so it should be, since this is the first time that one movie has been the sequel of four different films including Thor, Captain America, the Incredible Hulk and two Iron Man movies.

Bringing them all together is none other than Joss Whedon. Again, the man behind Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog and Buffy the Vampire Slayer proves he can do no wrong as he somehow makes a film comprised of many stories fit nicely into a film that truly feels like each character got his/her due time.

The only weak link (and some have disagreed with this) is the villain who, sure is a demi-god, but never really appears as if he has a chance against the super group.

As for standout role, I'd have to give it to Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Yes, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America are all great characters with fantastic actors, but the 10-year-old boy in me simply found it impossible not to smile when the inevitable "Hulk Smash" scene arrived. And the biggest laugh of the film comes from none other than Harry Dean Staton, which is a tip of the hat to all sorts of awesomeness.

This film is worth the price of admission and a bag of popcorn. Welcome to summer, people. Enjoy.
