Howe Sound Secondary School鈥檚 production of the 鈥60s rock opera Hair is coming to an end. Performed in the Eagle Eye Theatre, the psychedelic musical鈥檚 run finishes on Saturday (May 31).听

It took five months for the students and teachers to pull the show together, instructor Janice Carroll told The Chief. The rock musical delves into the hippie counterculture and digs through the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. Some of the songs from the musical鈥檚 scores became Top 10 hits on the charts.

The student cast discussed why Americans hit the street in protest of the war, Carroll said. A lot of the subject matter is still relevant today, she noted.听

鈥淭here are also issues that cross gender and racial lines and organized religion in the play,鈥 Carroll said.听

David Thomson plays the lead role of Claude, with Brandon Koop portraying Berger. Sheila is played by Howe Sound student Ashley Schulteiss and Chloe Wiesenthal. The role of Woof is acted by Jamie Kawchuk.听

Other local talent involved in the play includes: Jan-Louis Wiedmann (Hud), Erika Carney and Ali Weatherbee (Jeanie), Olivia Godfrey and Alysha Russell (Crissy), Grace Christensen and Ashleigh Giffen (Dionne), Dean Van Tassel (Margaret Mead) and Hubert (Thomas Drewry).听

Carroll is the artistic director and is working alongside music director Fran Booth and choreographer Jennifer Carney on the production team.听

The play, which is recommended for those 14 and over, runs for two hours. Tickets are available at the school鈥檚 office or at Billie鈥檚 Bouquet in downtown 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料.听

Tickets cost $10 for students and seniors. Adults will dish out $12.听

The show can be caught tonight (May 29), Friday (May 30) or Saturday (May 31) at 7 p.m. at the Eagle Eye Theatre at the secondary school.听
