End of the world as Hollywood knows it

It's crazy to think that it's only been 10-ish years since the Apatow Army invaded Hollywood and captured the hearts/wallets of a nation.

It's crazy to think that it's only been 10-ish years since the Apatow Army invaded Hollywood and captured the hearts/wallets of a nation. Yet here we are at a time when Seth Rogen, James Fanko and their ilk can sit back and just hang out in a film and call it a money-making day.

Written and directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, This is the End features all actors playing themselves, with heavy doses of over-the-top typecasting lending itself to a wide variety of sprawling comedy styles.

The film starts with Rogen picking up his buddy Jay Baruchel at the airport for some quality friend time. Instead, they head to Franko's housewarming party. There, it's a dizzying spread of Hollywood who's who with rapid-fire cameos going off in all directions. Cameo/highlight of the film: Michael Cera, who gleefully throws his typecasting out the window, Neil Patrick Harris in Harold and Kumar-style, to satisfying results.

From there, the film's Biblical apocalypse plot goes full swing, leaving Franko, Rogen, Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and Danny McBride to face the end, and each other.

While not life-altering, it's certainly entertaining enough as an apocalyptic hangout film/Apatow Army therapy session. In the end there are worse people to hang out with for 110 minutes, even if it is during the end of the world.

This is the End has just been released on DVD and online everywhere enjoy.
