On Tuesday, Feb. 4, the District of 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 revealed the first-place winners for the municipality's hydro box wrap design competition. Out of eight submissions, a jury picked Toby Jaxon's, Rochelle Rae Smith's and Doug Hackett's work to spruce up three B.C. Hydro boxes in the heart of 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料.
The hydro casing in front of the 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Arts Council (SAC) building will be covered in Rae Smith's photo of legs splashing in a lake. Two joined boxes outside of Studio SQ on Cleveland will play host to a panoramic photo by Hackett of Shannon Creek, while a hydro box in front of the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. will be covered in a picture of an outdoor painting by Jaxon, a 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料-based artist.
The wins come with cash. In total the artists will receive $1,750. The images will be sent to B.C. Hydro for final approval. Within the next few weeks, district officials will then select a company to put up the wraps, a council report stated. The new looks are expected to be installed in the early spring, it noted.
The project is anticipated to cost approximately $6,000, the report stated.
The whole process of getting the hydro boxes wrapped was a "big learning experience," Coun. Bryan Raiser told council, noting it's taken four years. Although the photos are great, it's not what he expected out of the project, he said. Originally Raiser said he sought a grassroots street art initiative.
Last December, council selected new designs for 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料's street banners. Like the hydro box wrap competition, the banner contest was open to all 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 residents, including youth, students and professional and emerging artists. Both competitions were in partnership with district, SAC and Downtown 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 Business Improvement Association.
Artist Chili Thom and graphic Kristen Dillon won the earlier competition for their image of a soaring eagle. The banners will also be placed along Cleveland and at the south end of Tantalus Road this spring.
