Crowns coming to town

Travelling basketball show team to battle Sounders on Oct. 30

The Harlem Crowns are coming to town and the Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) Sounders senior boys basketball team is set to be part of the game and the show.

The Crowns, a spinoff from the famous Harlem Globetrotters travelling basketball team, will showcase their skills inside Howe Sound gym on Oct. 30.

For new Sounders senior boys team head coach Max Roy, it's a bit of a flashback to see the Crowns back in 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料.

"Ten years ago, when I was on the team they came and we played them," he said with a chuckle. "It was a lot of fun - they're a very entertaining group. They're similar to the Globetrotters and they have a lot of funny, intricate antics going on."

Roy said the Crowns contacted HSSS to see if there's any interest because they happened to be in the area. The timing worked out as the Sounders are looking for ways to raise money to purchase new jerseys.

The Crowns originally started in the late 1950s and play more than 100 games a year in North America and Asia. The Crowns and the Sounders plan to play four, 10-minute quarters.

Roy said his team is looking forward to hitting the hardwood with the Crowns but that they understand that it's more about entertainment than competition.

"They're excited," he said of the team's mood. "But they don't really know what to expect. I told them that the more they embrace it, the more fun it will be. The whole thing is you have to have fun with it. We'll do our best but we're not expecting to win - I think they have us outskilled by a bit."

Roy said the Sounders will play Tier AA basketball this year and that he expects to have a full roster. Regular season action for Howe Sound gets underway at the end of November.

Tickets for the event are $10 at the door, with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and a tipoff at 7 p.m. The Crowns are known as family entertainment and people of all ages are invited to check out the game.
