Art from the heart

Gallery opens 'fresh' new exhibit

This Valentine's Day, why not book an art date.

On Thursday, Feb. 14, Portico Gallery has planned an opening reception for "A Breath of Fresh Air." The exhibit features the work of four new up-and-coming 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 artists, along with numerous painters, jewellers and sculptors from the Sea to Sky Corridor.

The show centres on spring, gallery owner Linda Bachman said. The colours are warm and many of the pieces are of local scenes, she said.

"I am still trying to get a painting, at least one done, for the show," Bachman said.

Bachman was inspired by the "art date" idea when a husband came by the gallery to surprise his wife with a piece of artwork. She also helped another couple, who got engaged on the Stawamus Chief, find a picture of the rock face as a keepsake.

"They wanted a commemorative painting," she said.

The reception runs from 5 to 8 p.m. 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 musician Rick Morgan will be on hand with a number of romantic tunes up his sleeves.

The event marks a turning point for Bachman, she said. With a slowed global economy, Bachman questioned the viability of the gallery. But the number of people represented under Portico's roof keeps growing, Bachman said. The gallery currently holds work from approximately 50 artists.

"My whole purpose is to create an image of 老澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 as a destination for artists," Buchman said.

The latest exhibit will run from Feb. 6 to April 14. The gallery, located at 1365 Pemberton Ave., is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call (604) 567-2787 or visit www.porticogallery.ca.
