There鈥檚 always one, isn鈥檛 there? You鈥檙e standing in the lineup for the checkout, dutifully adhering to the provincial health officer鈥檚 COVID-19 social distancing directive when another shopper sidles up within sneezing distance.

A North Shore business is now selling some apparel to remind folks to keep their droplets to themselves, with all of the proceeds going the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Hats from Maplewood-based eco-friendly cleaning supplies producers Nellies read, in bold letters: 鈥淩ESPECT SOCIAL DISTANCE.鈥

鈥淲e want to re-enforce that social distancing is something that is going to help get us through this situation faster and we want to make sure everyone is keeping their distance from one another,鈥 said Agatha Gozdur, marketing director for the company. 鈥淲e know that food banks are some of the hardest hit. We wanted to find a way to give back.鈥

So far, more than 150 people bought the hats. Nellies has opted to put a base price of $10 on them but big-hearted purchases have the option of paying more.

鈥淲e鈥檝e had some people pay $50, $100 for a hat and all of that is going straight to the food bank,鈥 she said.

The company has also paid for one of their suppliers to produce 5,000 face shields, which have since been donated to frontline workers in local hospitals.
