NEW YORK (AP) 鈥� Ransom Riggs' first new series since the million-selling will launch this summer.
鈥淪underworld, Vol. 1 The Extraordinary Disappointments of Leopold Berry鈥� begins the adventures of a Los Angeles teen who, after his mother's death, has some surreal encounters in his everyday life. Dutton Books for Young Readers, a Penguin Random House imprint, will publish 鈥淪underworld鈥� on Aug. 27.
鈥淚鈥檝e always been drawn to portal fantasies in fiction,鈥� Riggs said in a statement Wednesday. 鈥淭hey feel like invitations to optimistic worlds where, ultimately, joy is possible, if only you can find the key. We鈥檙e living through some very heavy, very dark times 鈥� we have been for a while 鈥� and this story is meant to be an escape 鈥� and a respite from darkness.鈥�
Riggs' 鈥淢iss Peregrine鈥� novels have sold more than 10 million copies. The first book in the series, 鈥淢iss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,鈥� was adapted by Tim Burton into starring Eva Green.
