NEW YORK (AP) 鈥� Geraldine Brooks' 鈥淗orse,鈥� a novel about race and forgotten history, and Robert Samuels' and Toluse Olorunnipa's 鈥淗is Name Is George Floyd: One Man鈥檚 Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice鈥� have won awards from the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation.
The awards were announced Tuesday by the Dayton foundation, which honors a book of fiction and of nonfiction for using 鈥渢he power of literature to foster peace, social justice, and global understanding.鈥� Brooks won the Pulitzer Prize in 2006 for her novel 鈥淢arch,鈥� while 鈥淗is Name Is George Floyd鈥� was
On Tuesday, Lily Brooks-Dalton's 鈥淭he Light Pirate鈥� was the runner-up for the Dayton fiction prize, and Adam Hochschild's World War I-era history 鈥淎merican Midnight: The Great War, a Violent Peace, and Democracy鈥檚 Forgotten Crisis鈥� was runner-up for nonfiction.
Previous winners include Viet Thanh Nguyen's 鈥淭he Sympathizer,鈥� Ta-Nehisi Coates' 鈥淲e Were Eight Years in Power鈥� and Chanel Miller's 鈥淜now My Name.鈥�
